When the angel of the Lord told Mary she was going to carry the saviour of the world.
She immediately accepted her mission
““I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered. “May your word to me be fulfilled.” Then the angel left her.”
Luke 1:38
And Mary said: “My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me— holy is his name.”
Luke 1:47-49 NIV
Mary has an amazing holy encounter with an angel.
It’s easy to say “yes” to God when you have an angel right by your side.
Not so easy when the angel leaves and you have to explain to your betrothed just what’s happened.
Not so easy when people are talking behind your back. Or judging you.
Mary said “yes” even though she knew that this would cost her greatly, her reputation destroyed, her future husband could humiliate her and disown her. All hope of a ‘normal’ marriage gone.
Mary had to continue to say “yes” when she was alone. When she was heavily pregnant and had to leave her town, not knowing where she was going to give birth.
Mary gave birth to hope when she brought Jesus into the world.
Her saying “ yes” brought the only one who could bring peace, unconditional love, salvation, security, eternity to this broken world.
Jesus invites us daily to say “yes” to him.
To be his light, to be his hands and feet to a world who needs to know the hope and peace that he alone can bring.
Mary’s “yes” challenges me to keep saying “yes” even in the non angelic, holy moments.
How about you?? What is God asking of you right now?
I invite you to pray this prayer with me.
Jesus I repent of all the times I have
ignored
you when you have asked me to step up or step out for you.
Thank you for your forgiveness and patience with me.
This Christmas and the months and years to come may I be like Mary and say “yes” without hesitation.
To do all you ask of me in the power of your Holy Spirit and for your glory Amen .
