Have your thoughts gone to how much you need to accomplish before the 25th comes round?
The juggling of work, family, shopping, church events. The list goes on.
I have given myself one small task this advent and I'm trying to make this a daily practice. All I have to do is say out loud “I trust you Jesus”
You see I so easily get into the worry mindset which then spirals into being overwhelmed.
I know that Advent is not about those feelings. It’s the preparation of the celebration of Jesus coming to earth. Its a time of preparing our hearts and minds and focusing on all what Jesus is.
Jesus has been challenging me to rest in Him, to trust in Him. He has so much peace and rest to give in exchange for all the things we concern ourselves with!
So my challenge is when a worry sneaks into my mind, before it becomes bigger I say “ I trust you Jesus” and leave it with Him.
In exchange I picture Him giving be a gift of peace.
Trust is peace’s closest relative!!When we trust in Jesus and hand over everything to Him, peace washes over us.
What does rest or peace look like to you?
To me it’s a lake that has not even a ripple in it, I can sit beside it or swim in it!
Its when my mind is calm.
In our busy lives we don’t always get a lot of physical rest or peace but we can in our minds!!
I know for me that this has to be an hourly not daily choice!
I choose to exchange worry for peace, I choose to trust Jesus instead of letting my thought life go down a rabbit warren of worry.
Here are some verses that you could meditate on this Advent.
“Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid. The Lord, the Lord himself, is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation.””
Isaiah 12:2 NIV
“In you, Lord my God, I put my trust.”
Psalms 25:1 NIV
“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”
Isaiah 26:3 NIV
What do you need to hand over to God?
Feel free to use this prayer and add your own to the list.
What great timing for such a message! In a world that continues to proudly flaunt its utter Godlessness, God's people around the world will celebrate His amazing gift of eternal life through the incarnation of Jesus. How we can trust our savior and Lord in every circumstance - Rom 8:31-39!
